The Game of Marketing
Let’s be frank for a moment: you’re not here browsing a design firm’s blog to ask if your game is fun and if people want to play it. You know it’s fun, and your friends already want to play it; you don’t need us to tell you that. What you need to know is: Who will want to buy it?
This Year’s Successes
We worked with tons of stellar clients over this last year, which was our best ever for successful Kickstarters! Check out this list of highlights from the past year.
Your Playtest Feedback
You’ve just about finished a session with your prototype. You’ve got friends and strangers sitting around a table, tallying up their scores and talking through their final plays. Any moment now, you’ll be asking them those fateful words:
“What did you think?”
Iconography: Your Game’s Alphabet
Nearly every game has icons. Fire, flip, exhaust, enchantment, wheat, windmills… there’s no end to the number of things your game might want to visually represent. Icons are so ubiquitous, in fact, that it’s one of the first things a game designer will consider hiring a graphic designer to create.
The Modern Magic Frame
Magic: the Gathering was first released in 1993. It was immensely popular at release, and remains even more popular today, with over 35 million players across physical and digital platforms. The game has had a massive influence on generation of players, many of whom are becoming the next great game designers of today and tomorrow. Trends in Magic’s design are picked up and carried through hundreds of other contemporary games. It’s only natural that, as graphic designers, we should look at Magic’s graphic design trends too.
Why should I hire a graphic designer for my board game?
You already need lots of partners to produce your game. You need an illustrator for your artwork, a printer for production, a logistics company for shipping, and a crowdfunding platform to get your money together. Why should you reserve space in your tight budget for graphic design?
